Base Oil Categories
Group I Base Oils
The product also known as conventional oils, with the majority of hydraulic and bearing lubricants being made using an API Group I stock. Group I main advantage is their high solvency, this means that they have a high tolerance to degradation by-products, which allows for the life of a lubricant to be extended.
Group 2 Base oils
The product has a high level of purity and is found in all modern conventional petroleum oils. Over the years due to API services requirements becoming stricter, the quality of these oils has steadily improved. Due to the higher level of purity this base stock gives lubricants a longer service life.
Group 3 Base Oils
The Product has the most stringent level of petroleum oil refining, with the benefits of this group being undeniable. The lower volatility, higher viscosity and lower pour points give lubricants from this base stock a longer service life. Group III base oils have become a lot more common in America over the last decade.
Re-Refined Based Oils:
The product is subjected to the same stringent refining, compounding and performance standards. Lubricants which are made from re-refined base stocks must meet these standards in order to receive an API certification.
The product is light colored, non staining naphthenic oil from specially selected wax free crude oil.
These base oils are primarily used to formulate superior passenger car motor oils, heavy duty motor oils, automatic transmission fluids and industrial lubricants, as well as agriculture, detergents / dispersants, greases, hydraulic fluids and oils, metal working and food contact applications.

We bring all our core oil trading skills and services to the Bitumen market: We are able to trade Bitumen with every producing country in the world. Our clients appreciate our commitment to realize Bitumen trading projects that are on specification and on time.
Bitumen is a solid, semi-solid or viscous hydrocarbon with a colloidal structure which is brown to black in colour. It is obtained by vacuum distillation of oil residues from atmospheric distillation of crude oil. Bitumen is often referred to as asphalt and is primarily used for surfacing of roads and for roofing material. This category includes fluidised and cut back bitumen.
Our Bitumen experts have an overview about European supply and demand balance and key countries expecting future growth. Our international monitoring identifies the driving factors in the road industry as well as regional overproduction and production shortfalls. Our lobbying and marketing activities enable us to get access to future construction projects - and brings new business to our refinery partners. Furthermore our Bitumen analysts know the trends and challenges for shipping in the current market. That enables our GLOBAL ENERGY DIVISION to generate the best arbitrage programs for our customers.
Raw bitumen has an extremely high viscosity, between 8 to 10 API degrees, at ambient temperatures, rendering it unusable for use in electrical power stations.
Bitumen can be modified by mixing it with about fresh water and a small amount of phenol-based surfactant. The resulting mixture has properties similar to conventional fuel oil. A newer version of bitumen-based fuel has replaced the original version with an alcohol-based surfactant, making it easier to transport the fuel and eliminating the health concerns associated with the phenol group of surfactants.
Out of 1300 types of crude oil around the world, only 9~10% are suitable for producing bitumen. Bitumen is divided into two main groups in usage: Paving Grade and Roofing Grade. Approximately 87% of bitumen is used in road paving. Other uses are for Waterproofing products, such as sealing flat roofs. Furthermore, there are different penetration grades of bitumen such as 40/50, 60/70 and 85/100, which are used in specific climate for road paving. While Oxidized grades are used in roofing and waterproofing industries.
Bitumen can be transported into one of the following forms:
- • Bulk
- • Drums
The hot liquid bitumen comes out of producing unit with a temperature rate between 130~150 Degree Celsius, which can be pulled into tankers for road transport. Normal tankers are used for short distance transport, while specialized tankers which are equipped with heating systems can be used for longer route destinations.
Drums are produced from cold rolled steel and will be coated with antirust black paint. Available drum sizes are: 150kg, 185 kg, and 210kg while the plate thickness can be 0.6 or 1mm. While 185kg is the standard drums, but some markets prefer different sizes.GP Internationaloffer the desired drum size. However min order quantity will apply on other sizes than 185kg, and also the freight charge will be extra for 210kg, as less drums can be fitted in one container.
